This Hornby Rivarossi OO Scale train set commemorates the famous 4-6-2 Mallard steam locomotive. On the 3rd of July 1938 the LNER A4 locomotive Mallard set the world speed record for a steam engine at 126 mph at Stoke Bank, south of Grantham. Years later with the nationalization of the railways the locomotive's feat was not forgotten, with Mallard maintaining its celebrity status among the train spotters of the day while continuing to haul express passenger trains along the East Coast Mainline. This Train Set encapsulates the enduring allure of Mallard as it would have appeared during the early 1950s. The track oval in this set features a turnout and spur, a power pack, speed controller and complete instructions. The locomotive is DCC ready and has an eight-pin DCC socket inside for easy addition of your favorite decoder (sold separately). All cars on the train come equipped with NEM hook-and-loop couplers which are not compatible with most North American models. OO Scale is 1/76 proportion operating on standard HO Scale track.
